Spring 2024: 6 Anime to Keep an Eye on This Season!

Monteiro - 22 April 2024

Starting now in April is the spring anime season, and over the next three months, we’ll be inundated with dozens of premieres and new seasons. Splash has curated a list to tell you about the anime you need to keep an eye on.

KAIJU NO.8

Kaiju is the term used to describe the colossal monsters featured in Japanese productions, such as Godzilla and Gamera. The anime “Kaiju No.8” delves into this universe, setting its plot in a locality frequently plagued by these titans.

The protagonist, Kafka, harbored the dream of joining the defense forces against the kaijus since childhood. However, his current reality leads him to work for the company responsible for cleaning up the wreckage left by these creatures. Everything changes when Kafka is bestowed with mysterious powers, propelling him into a journey of unimaginable discoveries and challenges.

Kaiju No.8″ will be available on Crunchyroll and also for free on X, the former Twitter.

VIRAL HIT

Unlike anime based on manga, “Viral Hit” is based on a manhwa, a South Korean comic, created by Taejun Pak with artwork by Kim Junghyun. The story playfully explores the cult of digital celebrities by featuring Hobin Yu, a student responsible for a YouTube channel about fighting. Despite being weak, Hobin receives advice from a mysterious YouTuber and becomes capable of defeating much stronger opponents.

With over 100 million views on the Webtoon website alone, “Viral Hit” has already garnered massive popularity in comic form, suggesting that the anime adaptation is poised for similar engagement success. The series will be produced by Okuruto Noboru studio, known for its work on “Tomodachi Game

A CONDITION CALLED LOVE

For those longing for school romance stories, “A Condition Called Love” is the perfect anime. The spotlight shines on Hotaru, a teenager with little experience in love. When she sees Hananoi, the heartthrob of the school, getting rejected on the street, she offers him her umbrella. The two start a relationship and embark on a journey to discover how to express their own love.

Don’t think of “A Condition Called Love” as a cliché story because here we delve into a rather thorny theme: Hananoi isn’t exactly a Prince Charming, but rather a rather “emotional” guy. The differences in their intensity of love end up causing a controversial yet well-explored relationship by the author

A Condition Called Love” will be available on Crunchyroll.

TADAIMA, OKAERI

Tadaima, Okaeri” seems to be a lovely addition to the BL (Boy’s Love) anime genre, offering a unique perspective on family life and self-esteem issues. With an experienced director like Shinji Ishihara, known for his work on “Sasaki & Miyano,” and coming from a respected studio like Deen, there are certainly high expectations for the quality and emotionally engaging narrative of the series.

The family theme is an interesting aspect within the BL genre, as the focus is typically on romantic relationships between the protagonists. Exploring the dynamics of a family formed by a same-sex couple and their child can provide a comforting and meaningful representation for many viewers.

With captivating characters and a talented team behind it, “Tadaima, Okaeri” has the potential to become a favorite among BL anime fans and beyond, offering a touching story about love, family, and self-acceptance.

Tadaima, Okaeri” will be available on Crunchyroll.

WIND BREAKER

“WIND BREAKER” sounds like an exciting addition for fans of delinquents and action-packed stories. Haruka’s journey of seeking out stronger opponents in a school full of troublemakers at Fuurin Institute promises a thrilling ride filled with raw combat.

With the manga starting its publication in Japan in 2021 and quickly garnering attention for its action-packed plot, it’s no surprise that it has already been licensed for release in Brazil by Panini even before the anime adaptation debuts. The anticipation for the anime is further heightened by the involvement of CloverWorks, a studio known for delivering both incredible animations and compelling storytelling.

Fans can expect “WIND BREAKER” to deliver intense battles, character growth, and a gripping narrative as Haruka aims to establish himself as the king of delinquents within the school. The combination of CloverWorks’ animation prowess and the manga’s engaging storyline sets the stage for an anime that could captivate audiences with its adrenaline-fueled action and compelling characters.

“WIND BREAKER” will be available on Crunchyroll.

GO! GO! LOSER RANGER

This “Power Rangers” parody offers an intriguing twist by featuring the surviving villains as the main characters, challenging the typical hero-villain narratives. The dynamic of subverting expectations and portraying the “heroes” in a different light, revealing their true nature, promises a story full of surprises and humor.

The journey of the protagonist, a former henchman determined to expose the truth behind the Dragon Keepers, adds an intriguing layer to the plot. His motivation of being tired of weekly humiliations and seeking justice brings an element of empathy and moral conflict that can resonate with the audience.

Certainly, this parody has the potential to offer a unique and entertaining approach to the superhero genre, exploring themes of morality, redemption, and the complexities of hero and villain roles in popular culture.

“Go! Go! Loser Ranger” will be available on Star+.
